Althea C. Carpenter, 90, of Odessa, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Born on May 24, 1927, Althea was a longtime resident of Odessa. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Robert G. Carpenter. She is survived by a son, Steven R. Carpenter (Jerry Arrasmith, deceased April 20, 2017) of Atlanta, GA; daughters, Gail E. Carpenter (Monica Powers) of Odessa, and Mary S. (David R.) Wolfe of Montour Falls.
Althea was a member of the Odessa-Catharine United Methodist Church for 71 years, where she was an active member of the United Methodist Women, as well as a Sunday School Teacher, and youth group leader. In addition to being involved in all church functions, Althea was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Odessa Food Pantry, Dutton S. Peterson Memorial Library, and the American Red Cross.
Althea was a graduate of the Elmira Business Institute, and worked as a legal secretary before devoting herself to raising her three children. She had a passion for baking, gardening, bird watching, music, reading, and serving her community.
Graveside services will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery in May at a day and time to be announced. Arrangements are being handled by Vedder and Scott Funeral Home in Montour Falls. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Odessa-Catharine United Methodist Church, Dutton S. Peterson Memorial Library or the American Red Cross.
